Green makeover for busy road

Abarren median strip and existing roundabout on a busy Division 10 thoroughfare are about to get a refresh.

The first stage of works will focus on the Beenleigh Redland Bay and Bryants Road intersection. The second stage includes landscaping the Beenleigh Redland Bay Road median strip between Bryants Road and California Creek Road. The third stage will infill and tidy up the median strip between Bryants Road and the M1.

‘The median strips will be filled with low-maintenance plants and existing concrete surfaces will be repainted,’ Councillor Miriam Stemp says.

This project has been a collaboration between Council and the Queensland Government recognising that Beenleigh Redland Bay Road is a state-regulated thoroughfare and an important part of the Division 10 landscape.

Cr Stemp said that both she and Mayor Power had advocated strongly for this project in response to community feedback.

It has also been the site of small fires in summer, most likely from cigarette butts tossed out of passing cars.

‘Residents just want this area cleaned up and landscaped to match the surrounding streets,’ she says.

‘I’m proud to say that the project will be delivered through the Division 10 Local Infrastructure Program and Council’s new City Beautification Program, with a funding boost from the Queensland Government’s Department of Transport and Main Roads.’
