New nesting options are a wild success

Wildlife is being encouraged to call Cornubia Forest Park home.

Councillor Miriam Stemp says a recent inspection of 39 nest boxes and various insect hotels in popular green space revealed they were being used.

Some of the boxes contained brushtail possums and squirrel gliders and there was clear evidence of animals nesting and insects visiting.

Cr Stemp says the boxes mimic natural hollows and give a variety of native species a safe and comfortable place to shelter, roost or nest.

‘Council will continue to monitor the boxes and insect hotels to gather data on our local wildlife and we look forward to seeing what uses them in the years ahead,’ she says.
