Park packed for community fun

Windy conditions did not diminish the community spirit on show at a special event in Oates Park in Woodridge.

About 300 residents turned out on Easter Saturday for the community day that was the brainchild of the Woodridge Neighbourhood Watch Group.

They were entertained by a petting zoo, pony rides, a balloon artist, a face-painter, bubble blowers, Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics and SES rescue officers while QFES turned up in a fire engine.

Logan City Council community safety officers were also on hand to talk about basic safety in the home and community.

Division 2 Councillor Teresa Lane says volunteers were busy on the barbecue, with about 500 sausages cooked.

‘We also made plenty of fairy floss, while firefighters hid the special treats for the Easter egg hunt,’ Cr Lane says.

‘No one went hungry and the event put smiles on a lot of faces.’

Cr Lane says the event came together thanks to numerous community organisations and individuals all chipping in.

Sponsorship came from Logan City Council small event funding and Bunnings Browns Plains while the event was also supported by Federal Member for Rankin Jim Chalmers, State Member for Woodridge Cameron Dick and funding from Cr Lane (Division 2) and Cr Jon Raven (Division 5).

Other supporters included Chempro Logan Central, McDonalds Logan Central, Jungle Bean Coffee Van, Bank of Queensland, 101FM and MyCity Logan.
