Warning signs light the way for wildlife
Bright new signage is helping keep our smaller ‘residents’ safer on local roads.
Portable wildlife advisory signs will caution drivers on a range of local roads.
After first being installed at Plunkett Road in Tamborine, the signs will then be rotated to other sites including Latimer, Miller and Quinzeh Creek Roads.
Deputy Mayor and Division 4 Councillor Laurie Koranski says the signs are a win for wildlife and driver safety.
‘We know that we share our landscape with a wide range of wildlife including koalas, kangaroos and wallabies,’ Cr Koranski says.
‘It is important we continue to take whatever steps necessary to reduce wildlife-related collisions, which can have a devastating impact on humans and animals.
‘The installation of these signs is being done with the support of the Albert Valley Wilderness Group, who have been long-term champions of this initiative.
‘I am very grateful for the ongoing work they do to encourage all drivers to take as much care as possible at known animal crossings.’
