Drop-off day for households

Dispose of chemicals safely and for free

City of Logan residents will be able to dispose of up to 10 litres of specified chemicals for free at a special drop-off day next month.

Logan City Council’s Carbrook and Logan Village Waste and Recycling Facilities will accept the household chemicals from 8am to 4pm on Saturday, February 3.

Materials that can be disposed of include solvents, water-based paints, pesticides, arsenic-based materials, photographic solutions, pharmaceuticals, acids, alkalis, pool chlorine, petrol, full or empty domestic fire extinguishers, butane gas cartridges, helium cannisters and cylinders, oily water and engine coolant.

Environment Chair Councillor Jon Raven said it was important residents correctly disposed of unwanted chemical waste from their homes.

“Incorrectly disposed of waste can cause health issues, impact the environment and spark fires in bins and garbage trucks,” Cr Raven said.

“Now is the time to clean out the garage and shed and take your household chemicals along to our Carbrook and Logan Village facilities next month.”

Containers need to be sealed, in good condition and not leaking and commercial quantities and unspecified materials will not be accepted.

Up to 100 litres of paint can be taken to Council’s waste facilities at any time.

Another chemical drop-off day is also planned for 8am to 4pm on Saturday, May 4 at the Greenbank and Beenleigh waste and recycling facilities.
