NAIDOC Family Fun Day
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander pride on display at family fun day
A free day of activities will be held next month in the City of Logan to celebrate local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and traditions.
The city’s annual NAIDOC celebration will be held from 9am to 4pm on Tuesday, July 9 at the Kingston Butter Factory (KBF) Cultural Precinct.
The Logan District Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Elders are hosting the free family fun day to mark NAIDOC Week which runs between Sunday, July 7 and Sunday, July 14.
The day will feature a flag raising ceremony, a corroboree ground, a free BBQ, stalls, rides, a damper-making competition and weaving, language and didgeridoo workshops.
The entertainment will include cultural songs, dance and musical performances throughout the day including Nana Magic’s Deadly Big Adventures.
The theme for NAIDOC 2024 is Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud.
City of Logan Mayor Jon Raven said Logan’s day of celebration would recognise and highlight local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
“This event shines a spotlight on our strong First Nations community,” Cr Raven said.
“It’s a great opportunity for us all to come together to showcase the stories, traditions, and achievements of the world’s oldest living culture.”
