Best guide to NAIDOC Week 2025 events around Logan
From storytelling and family days to ceremonies and performances, as NAIDOC Week approaches in July to mark a 50-year milestone, the City of Logan will have a large variety of activities throughout the region to celebrate.
Find an event near you to share in acknowledging the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The official date for the National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week is Sunday 6 July to Sunday 13 July, but there are many other activities before and after, to add to the celebrations.
Close to 15,000 Logan residents identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, representing around 4 per cent of the Logan population.

Uncle Reg Knox Memorial Exhibition
Young Peoples Gallery and Foyer in Logan Art Gallery
Logan Art Gallery’s annual exhibition of work by local First Nations features works selected by local elders artists and is named in honour of Logan artist, the late Uncle Reg Knox (Image above). Uncle Reg’s artistic ability is recognised locally, nationally and internationally, with many of his works being sold and shown in galleries within Australia and overseas. One of his artworks was gifted to the late Pope John Paul II on his 1986 visit to Australia. The memorial exhibition highlights the way he inspired local artists up to his death in 2020, at the age of 90. For details go to: Current Exhibitions – LoganARTS

Generational Knowledge: Our Voices, Our Power
First Nations Space in the Living Museum of Logan, at Kingston Butter Factory
This special space features a new exhibition co-curated with Logan’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The collection of artwork explores the strength, knowledge, and truths carried across generations by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices. This exhibition offers an opportunity to listen, learn, and reflect on the impact First Nations voices have had throughout history and will continue to have for future generations. Free entry. Spirit of the Dreaming story time show: Old Nana Quokka
Beenleigh Library
This school holiday session for children under 10 will feature Yamatji-Noongar storyteller, author, artist and performer Aunty Rhonda Collard-Spratt, and author Jacki Ferro in a special storytelling of their book Old Nana Quokka. Kids can enjoy storytelling, puppetry, song and dance, and learn about the bush animals and wise teachings based on ancient Aboriginal Dreamtime stories. The event is free, but bookings are required. Uncle John Smith Gumbula Art Display
Logan Central Plaza
With a location in the heart of it all, Logan Central Plaza is marking the 50 years of NAIDOC Week with a free art display for visitors to the shopping centre. Shoppers can admire artwork by Senior Indigenous Artist Uncle John Smith Gumbula, which will be located next to Jess’ Keys and Solutions in Centre Mall. Uncle John is a proud WakkaWakka/GurangGurang man, Yiman, with strong cultural ties across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia. He is also an adopted son of the Yolngu people Galiwinku, Elcho Island, Northern Territory.

Story time: NAIDOC Week
Logan Libraries
Story time sessions will be held in the mornings across the City of Logan in libraries between 7 July and 10 July. They are ideal for babies up to 5-year-olds, with library staff delivering a special story time to celebrate NAIDOC Week. These are free and there is no need for bookings. Libraries are Logan Central, Jimboomba, Greenbank, Logan North, Beenleigh, Marsden, Logan West, Logan Village, and Logan Hyperdome Library. NAIDOC 2025 Family Fun Day
Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct
A vibrant lineup of activities and entertainment for all ages is planned from 9 am to 2:30 pm to celebrate this year’s NAIDOC Week and honour Indigenous voices, culture and resilience. Throughout the day there will be a flag raising ceremony, song and dance performances, a weaving workshop, rides, a damper-making competition and more. An Open Doors Youth Service stall will provide a chill-out zone and cold drinks, and there will be food trucks, prizes and a free BBQ Gates open 8:30 am. Play and learn: NAIDOC Week
Marsden Library and Beenleigh Library
Library staff have a special day planned for children aged 2 to 5, to enjoy the ‘Play and learn’ early literacy program of the First 5 Forever – Talk, Sing, Read and Play – to provide ideas to take home to help children’s brains and language development. This is a free event, from 11:30 am to noon, at both libraries at the same time. Bookings are not required. NAIDOC Week Flag Raising Ceremony – Logan

Each year during NAIDOC Week, Griffith University hosts flag raising ceremonies across its campuses as an opportunity to bring together members of the Griffith community to publicly commemorate the importance of honouring the continued connection to culture, country, and to respectfully acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples. Adventure on Country: an interactive writing workshop

Designed for primary school children aged 8 to 11, this interactive writing workshop and Dreamtime story session will be held by author Trevor Fourmile. Springwood Road State School
Bring the kids along to help celebrate NAIDOC for Jajumms, which means ‘children’ in the local Yugambeh language. A fun morning is planned for all – aimed at children aged under 8 – running from 9 am to noon, with doors opening at 8:30 am, and free venue parking. This Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural celebration includes fun activities, taste testing, performances and more. Playhouse Theatre in Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC)
The Visitors will be the first performance to kick off this year’s Clancestry Festival at QPAC to celebrate First Nations arts and culture. The theatre production is directed by Wesley Enoch, now one of Australia’s most celebrated directors, who grew up in Logan Central and attended Woodridge State High School. The Visitors, by Muruwari playwright Jane Harrison, provides insight into one of the most impactful and painful days in Australia’s history, and stands as an entertaining study of how communities respond to change and the unknown. The audience will go back to January 1788 as a mysterious fleet is amassing in the harbour, and 7 clan leaders must make a momentous decision: to send these strangers on their way or welcome them? NAIDOC Return to Country Event
Everleigh Park
Join together for an afternoon to learn of cultural celebration, connection, and community, from 3 pm to 5 pm. It is an occasion to enjoy some bush tucker and immerse yourself in the rich traditions and stories of the land as people come together to honour and respect Indigenous heritage. The afternoon will feature the Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony from the Jagera people, and a reptile show and animal petting farm. The event is organised by Enriching Communities Greenbank. There are plenty of ways to connect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders living in the City of Logan, so Logan City Council has put together a list of local services, programs and groups to view on its webpage that may be useful to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island community. There is lots of variety, from First Nations Dance Classes at Waterford for children aged 2 and up, to an online community to access resources and connect, called Yarnspace.
