Young artists share creative spin on the world

Art can do many things – provoke emotion, inspire conversation, spark imagination.  For young minds, it’s a great way to be able to express emotion and explore stories.

We chatted to some of Logan’s young artists, who attend weekly art sessions at Logan Artists Association led by Logan artist Dr Nicola Hooper, to find out what inspires them.

“I’ve been really interested in art since I was 3. I like that you can draw whatever you want, there are no limits. It’s whatever you can think of and it is a really good way to express yourself. ”

“Art gives you a chance to put out there whatever you want and experiment. You can really go your own way and everyone does it differently. I like using my imagination and I like that there are no rules when it comes to art. ”

“You are given these tools and some direction but you can really use it to express yourself in any way that you like. You can try anything out and see how you like it. I really like doing watercolours, and realistic work – but also cartoon art. ”

— Jillian, 12

“I love art because it is about creativity and freedom. You have no restrictions and you can put things into your art that tells a story. I like it when you look at a piece of art and you can see something different in it every time, and that’s what I would like to try and do with mine. I like things that are fun to look at. ”

“I like using my imagination to think about what I am going to do and how I’m going to do it. Being able to think of something and then make it real on the page is really fun. I especially like art that’s to do with monsters, spies or things that are a bit scary. ”
