Local artists shine in new gallery exhibitions

The work of 3 City of Logan artists will be showcased at the Logan Art Gallery Pop-Up from this Friday (29 July).

The opening at the gallery at Logan West Community Centre at Hillcrest will feature talks from 5.30 pm by exhibiting artists Mark Kleine and Christina Lowry.

Mark, a Logan Village artist, has produced a series of new photographic and digital works titled Domina, which narrates a fictional relationship between a parent and their gender-fluid child.

Remember to live is the first solo exhibition at Logan Art Gallery for Christina, from Rochedale South.

She uses photography to draw parallels between the COVID-19 pandemic and the plague outbreaks which influenced the still-life paintings of 17th century Dutch artists.

Young Boronia Heights artist Oliver Murdoch created illustrations of super-hero characters for his Escaping stress exhibition.

The new exhibition round will be opened at 6 pm by Dr Martin Smith, a lecturer from the Queensland College of Art at Griffith University.

This round will be on display at Logan West Community Centre until 3 September while essential maintenance is undertaken at Logan Art Gallery in Logan Central.

City Lifestyle Chair, Councillor Laurie Koranski says the operation of the pop-up space had allowed Council to take the gallery to the community.

‘This has proved very popular with residents in the area surrounding Logan West Community Centre,’ she says.

Division 7 Councillor Tim Frazer says his local community had embraced the opportunity to visit the gallery.

‘It has been a big hit taking it out into the suburbs and we are now considering what further opportunities we can create throughout the city, not just at our main gallery,’ Cr Frazer says.

Logan Art Gallery Pop-Up is open 10 am to 5 pm between Tuesday and Saturday. Entry is free.

Logan West Community Centre is at 2 Wineglass Dr, Hillcrest.
