Cronulla Park Indoor Sports Centre opens

Cronulla Park facility opens in time for Christmas

Families, fitness buffs and fun-seekers across the City of Logan have received a $14 million present, just in time for Christmas.

The Cronulla Park Indoor Sports Centre, which includes multiple sporting and fitness facilities, spaces for youth and indigenous programs and an outside school hours care service, was officially opened today.

The facility was delivered in line with Logan City Council’s Active Logan Strategy 2016-2028, which aims to support active and healthy lifestyles.

The Cronulla Park Indoor Sports Centre, on the corner of Compton Road and Kingston Road in Slacks Creek, is stage 1 of Logan City Council’s Cronulla Park Sports Master Plan.

City of Logan Mayor Darren Power opens the new Cronulla Park Indoor Sports Centre.

The new centre includes a 24-hour gym with a large training space and a boxing ring.

The centre’s rhythmic and artistic gymnastics venue has been purpose-built to meet regional standards.

It is expected to become a training facility of choice for professional gymnasts, and aspiring Olympians.

A multipurpose function area includes a sprung floor suitable for dancing.

The centre’s Outside School Hours Care facility caters for up to 100 children and features a large outdoor playground.

The project was jointly funded by Logan City Council and the Queensland Government. It will be operated by PCYC Queensland.

City of Logan Mayor Darren Power said the opening of the Cronulla Park facility was a major milestone for the city.

“This fantastic, modern, sporting and recreational facility is the result of our close consultation with the local community over several years on how to revitalise Cronulla Park,” Cr Power said.

“It is a wonderful outcome for the local community and an asset for the City of Logan, which will be benefit from this redevelopment for many years to come.”

Member for Waterford Shannon Fentiman said the Queensland Government had backed the Cronulla Park Indoor Sports Centre with a $6.6 million contribution to the project.

“This is so much more than an indoor sporting complex, it’s also the new home of the Logan PCYC and will be a hub for our local families,” Ms Fentiman said.

“Cronulla Park will be a great asset for our Logan community with its state-of-the-art facilities including the fitness centre, gymnasium, training studio and playground.”

Lifestyle Chair Councillor Laurie Koranski said the new indoor centre was yet another great sporting facility for the City of Logan community.

“Cronulla Park stands proudly alongside top-class sporting venues including Logan Metro Sports & Events Centre, the redeveloped Logan North Aquatic Centre and Doug Larsen Park just to name a few,” Cr Koranski said.

“It is another way we are building on our reputation as a home for sporting champions.”

Division 3 Councillor Mindy Russell said the centre, which opened to the public in November, had been well received by the surrounding community.

“Facilities like this one are vital because they give local people greater access to the services and spaces they need to thrive,” Cr Russell said.

“This centre will provide world-class training facilities for our city’s athletes and give Logan kids another high quality after-school-care option. This centre will be an amazing support to our community as we head into the new year.”
