Diamond anniversary for hot rod enthusiasts

Under the slogan ‘Making new friends since 1964’, one of Division 10’s most beloved and enduring enthusiast clubs has celebrated its 60th anniversary.

The Rods Inc. Brisbane club is a family-oriented, non-profit organisation that promotes the automotive hobby of hot rodding.

It is based at Logan City Council’s Burchill Park facility in Loganholme.

The club has nearly 150 members and associates drawn from across South East Queensland.

Their passion is pre-1949 Hot Rods and Classic and Custom cars up to 1978.

The Rods Inc. clubhouse is decked out like a 1950s’ rockabilly cafe and was the venue for a glittering Diamond Jubilee 60th anniversary celebration in October.

Division 10 Councillor Miriam Stemp attended the event and congratulated the club on its significant milestone.

‘It was wonderful to be among a group of people who are so passionate about their cars and restoring them,’ Cr Stemp says.

‘It’s an amazing achievement and a true testimony to the dedication of club members to reach 60 years and I wish them all the best for another 60 years ahead.’

Club president Brian Lewis says membership is open to those who own, or are restoring, a vehicle that dates up to and includes 1978.

The club is a strong supporter of various charities and raises funds through regular car runs to locations across South East Queensland, dances and other social events.

‘While our passion for cars is what brings us together, we operate more like one big family,’ Brian says.

‘We are there to help each other and to support charities and causes that are important to us all.’
