Lions club celebrates anniversary

Five decades of helping others and a lifetime of caring is being celebrated by a local community organisation.
The Lions Club of Rochedale Springwood will use an anniversary dinner this month to mark its official establishment on May 19 1972.
President Trevor Collins says the club’s members are among Australia’s most dedicated and hard-working volunteers.
‘Our longevity is testimony to the fact that one person can speak but together we roar,’ Trevor says.
The club would love to hear from anyone with material, especially photos, to contribute to a book being put together to commemorate its history.
Councillor Lisa Bradley congratulated the club and its members.
‘They have served our local community for the past 50 years with their first achievement being the provision of an ambulance for the Springwood station,’ she says.
‘Since then, they have operated the Youth of the Year competition locally, run the popular Letters to Santa project with local schools and provided trauma teddies to Logan Hospital and the Queensland Ambulance Service.
‘They hope to expand their membership this year and I have no doubt they will achieve that.’
