High tea a huge success
Local seniors got a special treat from a high tea hosted by Councillor Teresa Lane with the help of two local charities.
More than 100 people attended the event at the Logan Area Committee of the Ageing (LACOTA) on Jacaranda Avenue.
Mission Possible President, Gail Harrower, says the high tea was a big success, although a few COVID-related hiccups almost derailed the event.
“With just days to go we risked it, and Councillor Lane secured John Cornelius the entertainer, who got the seniors up on their feet dancing and clapping along,” Mrs Harrower says.
Southside Flower Market owner, Nikki Christensen, was on board handing out a flower to every person who came through the door.
“As we all get older, we appreciate seniors’ contributions to our community and handing out a flower is our way of saying thanks,” Mr Christensen says.
LACOTA President, Jean Prior, says COVID-19 restrictions have made it harder for seniors to gather in one place.
“There is a sense of caution among seniors that their medical conditions and age make them vulnerable to COVID outbreaks. But once they heard Councillor Lane was putting on a high tea just for them, they came out in droves and had a lovely time.”
