Logan Art Gallery to host Christmas gift extravaganza

A treasure trove of hand-crafted items perfect for Christmas gifts will be available at Logan Art Gallery from later this week.

The talents of artists, craft workers and designers from the City of Logan will be displayed in the annual Logan treasures: art, craft and design pop-up store.

The store is part of the exhibition round which runs from Friday, December 3, 2021 to Saturday, January 15, 2022.

Now in its eighth year, the pop-up store has become a City of Logan tradition and an ideal way to find handmade and unique Christmas gifts.

The store will showcase the work of more than 20 local artists, including ceramicists, woodworkers, candlemakers, silversmiths, leatherworkers and jewellers.

A day of creative activities will be held on Saturday, December 4 starting at 8am.

The day includes a market selling handmade Christmas gifts, demonstrations by artists between 10am and 1pm, live music and an album launch by the Freedom Train community choir and the official opening of the exhibitions at 2pm.

Bookings for the opening are essential and can be made online by visiting the gallery page on Logan Arts

This exhibition round includes Portraits of our Life by students of Rochedale South artist Mei Mei Liu.

The students are known as the Creative Pod and include Ariel Jiao, Candy Zhu, Angel Wang, Grace Luo, Manon Garnett and Christine Zhou.

The exhibition of ink and acrylic on paper reflects their personal experiences and showcases current social concerns, personal histories and the natural environment.

The December-January gallery round also includes a touring exhibition from Sydney’s National Art School.

The 2021 Dobell Drawing Prize is a biennial exhibition of contemporary Australian drawings.

Australian artist Lucy Culliton selected Euan Macleod as the winner of the major prize sponsored by the Dobell Foundation along with 50 artists for the 2021 exhibition.

Logan Art Gallery is on the corner of Jacaranda Ave and Wembley Rd, Logan Central.

It is open from 10am to 5pm between Tuesday and Saturday.

The gallery will be closed for the Christmas break from Saturday, December 25, 2021 and re-open on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

Entry is free.
