Gridiron roars into Browns Plains
The Logan City Bears Club has marked its territory in Browns Plains and is getting ready to sink its teeth into the upcoming gridiron season.
The club recently moved into its new home at Grosvenor Park after previously being based at Hyde Park in Regents Park.
Gridiron, also known as American Football, is a popular football team sport played widely in the United States and Canada.
Logan City Bears President Chris Bradshaw says the club jumped at the opportunity to relocate to a larger facility that would accommodate its growing membership.
‘We used to lease this same field for training, so to come back to Grosvenor Park and be permanently based here is fantastic,’ Chris says.
‘Having a larger clubhouse gives us the opportunity to run events beyond just training. We’re looking forward to being able to host functions and connect with the wider community.’
The Bears’ new home has a full field and practice field, kitchen, canteen, shaded seating and parking.
There is also a multi-purpose function room. Logan City Council funding through the Division 7 Local Infrastructure Program will see the club receive new solar and security systems ahead of the upcoming season.
The facility became available when Browns Plains Bears Rugby League Club relocated to Logan Metro Sports Park as part of an agreement between Logan City Council and Queensland Rugby League.
Grosvenor Park will also become the home of the Gridiron Queensland men’s, women’s and junior State teams, the Sundevils, which competes in the annual Gridiron Australia National Championships.
Councillor Tim Frazer says it is fantastic to have Logan City Bears call Browns Plains home.
‘It’s great to see them move into a new home and I look forward to their men’s, women’s and junior teams performing at their best and continuing to grow for years to come.’ Cr Frazer says.
