Milestone for community transport service

When Ann Langley set up a support group for multiple sclerosis in the Logan area in 1992, she set the wheels in motion for one of the city’s – and Australia’s – greatest success stories.

The volunteer group became Logan and Albert North Disability Services (LANDS) in 1994, and is now known as TransitCare – Australia’s largest community transport provider.

TransitCare now travels more than 2 million kilometres each year to support 270,000 people statewide – all from its Loganlea base.

The organisation provides social support and home-care services to elderly, socially isolated and young people with disabilities.

CEO Terry O’Toole says they help clients maintain independence and stay connected to their communities.

‘I would like to think that Ann would be extremely proud of today’s TransitCare for upholding the value of providing the best service possible to our clients,’ Terry says.

‘Our community has trusted us every day for the past 30 years – to look after them, get them to appointments or the shops, visit family and friends or attend one of our social support trips.

‘We now employ almost 180 people and have 80 vehicles servicing Logan, Redland, Brisbane South, Mt Tamborine, Cairns, Gold Coast, Charters Towers, Ingham, Townsville and surrounding areas.’

Division 6 Councillor Tony Hall says the distinct lime branding makes their vehicles stand out on local roads.

‘TransitCare is an icon in our city and so many people live better lives due to the genuine care shown to them by the staff and volunteers,’ Cr Hall says.
