Pathway to possibility for seniors

There are easier journeys ahead for aged care residents who walk or use mobility scooters along East Street in Jimboomba.

A new 60-metre footpath has been constructed along East and John Streets to connect Jimboomba Community Aged Care with South Street and the town centre.

The 1.5-metre-wide footpath includes safety fencing along the edge of an adjacent drainage culvert.

A new retaining wall, landscaping and kerb improvement works were also carried out as part of the upgrade.

Division 9 Councillor Scott Bannan says the footpath is a simple project that will make life a whole lot easier for residents of the aged care facility.

‘A clear path from A to B means everything when you have limited transport options,’ Cr Bannan says.

‘Previously, our aged care residents, or anyone travelling along East Street, were faced with a bit of a precarious journey along the roadside.

‘This footpath is an important link that will make getting to and from local shops and services easier and safer.’

The upgrade works were carried out during the Easter school holidays to minimise traffic disruptions for nearby Emmaus College.

The project was funded by Logan City Council through the Division 9 Local Infrastructure Program.
