Community invited to share views on safety

Logan City Council is asking residents to have their say on community safety in the City of Logan.

The Safe City survey will run from Monday, January 31 to Monday, February 21.

The information gathered will shape future community safety and crime prevention activities in the City of Logan.

Council’s Community Safety officers work in close partnership with local police, government and non-government agencies and community groups to deliver free crime prevention events and activities.

Some of these include the Safe City awards, support services hubs, educational crime prevention presentations and the Logan Safety Camera Program which provides real-time, 24/7 monitoring.

There are currently more than 700 safety camera locations throughout the city, providing valuable data to assist the Queensland Police Service with detecting and apprehending offenders.

City Lifestyle Chair, Councillor Laurie Koranski, said Council wanted to better understand how residents felt about safety and crime.

“Most people’s perceptions of safety are influenced by their day-to-day experiences and observations at home and when out and about,” Cr Koranski said.

“Through the survey, we want to find out how they feel in different situations or places.

“Without community feedback we only have Queensland Police Service crime statistics about reported offences and while these are extremely helpful, they do not address unreported crime or safety concerns.”

An independent research firm is co-ordinating the survey on Council’s behalf.
