Where to recycle in Logan

Recycling has evolved over time and there are now 6 principles of sustainability – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Refuse, Repair and Re-Gift. Keep on reading to see what they mean for you.

Refuse: Refuse items that generate excess waste, like single-use plastic and buy items that are recyclable or refillable.

Say no to items you don’t need and consciously opt for locally sourced and environmentally friendly options when possible.

Reduce: Consume less and decrease the amount of waste you generate. This can be achieved through:

  • Buying only what you need – avoid impulse shopping or buying more than necessary
  • Purchasing reusable or refillable items – use ‘green’ bags instead of plastic and a reusable Keep Cup instead of a takeaway cup
  • Buying in bulk or economy-sized – avoid single-serving products that result in more packaging waste

Reuse: Instead of throwing things away, use items for other purposes and purchase reusable items like refillable bottles.

Thrift shopping, sharing with friends and looking for second-hand items on Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace are great ways to repurpose items or find something new without generating waste.

Check out these second-hand stores in Logan:

Repair: Fix whatever is broken instead of throwing it away to extend the lifespan of a product. If it cannot be repaired, look for a second-hand option before buying new.

Re-gift: If you have no use for an new item, pass it along to someone else or donate it to a charity.

Recycling: Recycling is the process of turning waste materials into new products for someone else to use. It’s important that we start viewing waste as a resource – after all, one man’s trash is another’s treasure.

Unless made from 100% metal or wood without paint or other treatments, furniture cannot be easily recycled and often ends up in landfill. Upcycling or refinishing furniture is a great option – explore the treasure trove at Heritage Park’s Logan Recycling Market for one-of-a-kind pieces you can bring back to life.
