Logan’s ultimate garage sale returns

Op shop enthusiasts from near and far will be flocking to the City of Logan for what might be the coolest garage sale of the year.

The annual – and highly anticipated – Garage Sale Trail will be returning to Logan for 2 weekends only, from 9 to 10 November and 16 to 17 November.

Local streets are set to buzz with sales as stallholders display pre-loved selections of anything and everything: vintage fashion and designer pieces, board games, books, accessories, homewares and more.

Last year’s event was a huge success, with 128 Logan sellers collectively making more than $30,000 and saving 38 tonnes of items from landfill.

Garage Sale Trail general manager Barbara Gill says op shopping and thrifting has become much more mainstream in the past few years.

‘People are looking to find more unique styles and be more sustainable in their shopping choices,’ Barbara says.

‘A garage sale is unlike any other retail environment – it’s a very personal experience in that you’re buying something directly from the owner and learning all about the history of the item before you buy.

‘The thing shoppers most enjoy is meeting new people and the stories they swap.’

Some of Barbara’s most memorable Garage Sale Trail finds include tutus worn by real ballerinas, a first edition Barbie and even old circus props.

Her most cherished garage sale acquisition, however, was a brand-new Jenny Kee sweater, just like the one famously worn by Princess Diana.

While the sweater is usually priced over $600 on eBay, she snagged it for just $20.

According to Barbara, this year’s Garage Sale Trail will be bigger and better than ever.

The trail will feature stops at locations other than residences, with Men’s Sheds selling tools and handmade items, along with entire streets, schools and scout groups joining together to set up pop-up markets.

‘One thing we’ve been working really hard on is making sure we provide the best possible support to those getting involved,’ Barbara says.

‘Anyone who signs up gets a free listing on the website, along with a bunch of free promotional tools and tips for having a successful sale.’
