Christmas activities and events in City of Logan
As festive cheer ramps up this time of year, here’s how to make the most of the season and have the merriest Christmas in the City of Logan. Here are some of the best Christmas events and activities to mark on your calendars, from joyous matinees to bustling markets and outdoor carols.
Book in for a Christmas feast
Get in early and make a reservation for a traditional – or not-so-traditional – Christmas feast this year. Whatever you pick, remember to wear your stretchy pants because you’ll be loading with your plate with Mooloolaba prawns, freshly shucked oysters and one too many servings of glazed leg ham. There’s also an Indian-style Christmas Day buffet option this year, where you can feast on butter chicken, lamb rogan josh and all the butter naan you can dream of. Check out our list of the best Christmas Day buffets in Logan and the best buffets in Logan that are open all-year round.
Embrace the season of giving this year
Get into the Christmas spirit this year by giving back to those most in need of festive cheer. Several local organisations already have great Christmas appeals underway that support families doing it tough, seniors spending Christmas alone and children in shelters or special care. There are numerous ways to show your support: simply donate or go Christmas present shopping for the cause of your choice. Here’s our list of where to donate in Logan for Christmas.
Write and drop off a letter to Santa
Inclement weather does not put off Santa’s hard-working elves, who have just set up Santa’s gingerbread house-shaped letterbox in Rochedale South. Your little ones can write a letter to the big man in red himself (and don’t forget to remind them to include their name, age and return address so he can reply). We’ve heard that he sometimes replies with a little treat as well.
Santa’s Letterbox can be found at 6 Romford Drive, Rochedale South.
Find the perfect presents at a Christmas market
Make Christmas shopping an enjoyable experience this year at one of the many Christmas markets in Logan, where twinkly lights and beautifully decorated trees will be in abundance. These markets are full of cheer with plenty of artisan stalls with unique and handmade wares, along with holiday activities, food trucks, live performances and if you time it right, sometimes a visit from Santa.
Support your community with a Christmas cake
It’s finally that magical time of year when you can indulge in cake for a great cause. The beloved Aussie tradition that is the Lions Christmas cake has made its long-awaited return. Every cake, packed with fruit and quality natural ingredients, helps fund important community programs across the nation – follow the Rochedale Springwood Lions Club Facebook page to find out where you can pick one up.
Catch a festive show at Logan Entertainment Centre
Christmas is coming early this year because musical greats will be gracing the Logan Entertainment Centre stage. On 29 November, Australian cabaret icon Libby O’Donovan OAM will be delivering hits from the holiday classic, Love Actually, in her show Christmas Actually. There’s even a VIP package option which includes cabaret seating, a Christmassy cocktail and an array of savoury and sweet treats. On 13 December, the award-winning Jonathon Welch AM will be performing renditions of Christmas classics with his glorious tenor voice in Silver Series: Merry & Bright with Jonathon Welch AM.
Take your pets to see Santa
If your pets have been good all year, take them for pet photos with Santa at Logan Hyperdome. Special after-hours photography sessions will be available from now until mid-December, where your four-legged companions can meet the big man in red. Create new Christmas memories and show your pets how magical the season can be – online bookings are essential.
Indulge in seasonal Christmas treats
The best thing about Christmas down under might just be the seafood: freshly shucked oysters, ginormous prawns and Moreton Bay bugs to name a few. Queensland’s biggest fresh seafood pop-up, the Fresh Seafood Mega Marathon, is coming to town with dine-in and takeaway options on selected days. Hot food options including bacon and egg mega rolls, rib fillet steak burgers, calamari, hot chips and more will be available, along with the freshest seafood around.
For sweet tooths, a few of the best bakeries in Logan will have festive treats on offer for a limited time only. You’ll find charming Christmas cream cakes at Bake It in December and homemade Christmas cookies at Roberto’s Cheesecakes.
Sing Christmas carols with the community
There isn’t a shortage of Christmas carol singing opportunities in Logan, with events running until mid-December. From fundraising Christmas concerts to church carols and glitzy galas, you’ll discover the reason for the season when you gather with fellow songsters. City of Logan Christmas Carols, the city’s biggest annual Christmas event, will take place on 7 December at Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct. This free, family-friendly and extra festive Christmas extravaganza features hours of live entertainment, kids activities, food trucks, markets and more. Check out our Christmas page for upcoming carols in Logan.
