Carols in the air

Nothing grumpy about upbeat inclusive community carols

Even the Grinch won’t be able to keep the smile off his face at this year’s City of Logan Christmas Carols.

The free fun-filled event – featuring the Grinch and his yuletide pals Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman – will deck out Griffith University’s Logan campus from 2pm on Saturday, December 10.

People of all ages and abilities will delight in a colourful Christmas stage show from 3pm, with an on-stage Auslan interpreter, wheelchair parking and large font programs available.

Talented local vocalists, bands, choirs and dance groups will lead the audience in song, alongside a range of Christmas-themed activities and free photos with Santa.

The evening will end with fireworks at 8pm.

Mayor Darren Power said the event would celebrate the start of the holiday season as guests enjoy some of the best musical entertainment in the City of Logan.

“Our Christmas Carols are always a great night out, led by some of our city’s best entertainers,” Cr Power said.

“I encourage everyone to come along and get into the spirit of the season or try their hand at one of the free activities on offer.

“After another big year, this brilliant event will again be our chance to relax and have some festive fun together.”

City Lifestyle Chair Councillor Laurie Koranski expects a strong turnout for the carols.

“The City of Logan Christmas Carols is one of the most highly anticipated events on our calendar,” Cr Koranski said.

“No matter where they live, local families should jingle all the way to Meadowbrook to join in the celebration.

“We can’t wait to welcome them for an evening that will be merry and bright.”

Division 6 Councillor Tony Hall said there would be something for everyone at the family-friendly event.

“All your festive favourites will be served up at this year’s City of Logan Christmas Carols,” Cr Hall said.

“A huge range of food, an amazing array of activities, and everyone’s favourite carols will spread some Christmas spirit far and wide.

“Santa has certainly got the City of Logan on his nice list this year so we are looking forward to our best carols yet.”

Activities on offer at the 2022 City of Logan Christmas Carols include:

  • gingerbread workshops
  • face painting
  • Christmas putt putt
  • amusement rides ($2 per person).

The Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman children’s stage show begins at 4.10pm.

The Grinch will take to the stage at 6.15pm.

A designated quiet zone will be available for those with sensory concerns.

There will also be free pram parking for parents with young children.

Griffith University’s Logan campus is on University Drive in Meadowbrook. Free parking is available on site.

A free shuttle bus service will operate between Loganlea train station and the event site from 1.45pm to 9pm.
