Flood update, March 3

City of Logan flood update: Thursday, Mar 3

City of Logan residents are advised to continue exercising extreme caution as several major roads were reopened to traffic today.

But with heavy rainfall in parts of the city this morning, and storms forecast for the next two days, any flash flooding that may occur could result in some local streets being closed again.

Major roads that have reopened (as of 2pm today) include:

  • Chambers Flat Rd, Chambers Flat (Between Grevillea Rd and Kenny Rd)
  • Cusack Lane, Jimboomba
  • Millstream Rd, Jimboomba
  • McTaggart Rd, New Beith
  • Jutland St, Loganlea
  • Coral St, Loganlea
  • Battle St, Loganlea
  • Waterford Brisbane Rd, Bethania
  • Kingston Rd, Kingston (Scrubby Creek)
  • Paradise Rd, Slacks Creek

Access to Logan Hospital from the western end of Loganlea Road is a priority for Council. Floodwaters have receded in the area but significant debris needs to be cleared.

Anzac Avenue (Logan Village) and Bayes Road (Logan Reserve) are also prioritised for reopening.

About 150 roads across the city remain closed or affected by floodwaters.

Drivers should refer to the Disaster Dashboard for up-to-date information on road closures.

Bridges that are now open following safety assessments include:

  • Browns Plains Rd (both bridges) at Berrinba
  • Third Ave (both bridges) at Marsden
  • Edward O’Neill Bridge, Kilmoylar Rd, Jimboomba
  • Wharburton Bridge, Teviot Rd, South Maclean
  • Flagstone Creek Bridge, Teviot Rd, Jimboomba
  • Geoff Phillips Bridge, Anzac Ave, Logan Village (western approach is still under water and closed)

  • Wilson Bridge, McTaggart Road, New Beith
  • McTaggart Bridge, McTaggart Road, New Beith
  • Oxley Bridge, Spring Mountain Road, New Beith
  • Spring Mountain Bridge, Spring Mountain Road, New Beith

Several other bridges, including those in Cusack Lane, Jimboomba and Queens Rd and Loganlea Rd, Slacks Creek, still require safety assessments before they can reopen.

City of Logan Mayor Darren Power encouraged residents to remain alert as communities reconnect.

“While it has been encouraging to see floodwaters recede in recent days, this severe weather event is not over yet,” Cr Power said.

“Drivers must remain patient and avoid taking any unnecessary risks on our roads.”

The City of Logan evacuation centre at inSports Logan Metro Health, Fitness & Events Centre in Crestmead, remains open to support residents displaced by floodwaters.

The centre, at 357 Browns Plains Road, is being coordinated 24/7 by Red Cross, the SES, the Salvation Army and volunteers. It provides showers, limited food and drinks and beds and blankets.

Temporary places of refuge, where residents can use toilets, charge their devices, or have a tea or coffee break, also continue to operate. These venues are not providing overnight accommodation.
