Logan Libraries upgrade

Tech upgrade paves way for new improved library catalogue

Logan Libraries will take another step towards ensuring services remain at the forefront of technology with key library management systems to be upgraded.

A new and improved online catalogue will be available for all library members from Tuesday, November 8.

New, user-friendly features include easier ways to for patrons to borrow digital library items such as eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines straight from the catalogue.

The delivery of personal recommendations based on each member’s reading history will also make it easier for patrons to discover their next great read.

The system will also alert people if they have previously borrowed an item.

City Lifestyle Chair, Councillor Laurie Koranski said the upgrade would deliver a range of benefits to library patrons.

“We have been using our current system and catalogue since 2003 and a lot has changed since then so it is time for us to refresh things,” she said.

“This will be another step by Logan Libraries towards enabling members to have a ‘library in their pocket’ experience and this is expected to occur by late 2022.”

The new mobile library app will be able to be used on a variety of devices and will allow members to easily access their account details and search the new catalogue.

A changeover period will impact online access to the library catalogue from the close of business on Saturday, October 29 until the morning of Tuesday, November 8.

During the changeover period, patrons will not be able to log into their accounts on the catalogue, renew or place holds on library items.

Patrons can still visit any of the city’s nine library branches during this time to borrow items.

Loan and hold periods will be extended during the changeover period.

Deliveries from the Home Library Service will continue for housebound clients.

Cr Koranski said Council thanks the community for its patience as these changes are made and staff learn the new system.

“These changes will help us to deliver a library service which better meets the needs of the community and enhances their reading experience.”

From Tuesday, November 8 patrons can log into their accounts with the same details as now and place holds again on items.

Loans and reservations lists will be visible as will any recommended reading lists previously created.
