Buying local in Logan

Buy Logan policy increases local spend

Logan City Council’s Buy Logan procurement policy is designed to ensure that, in as many cases as is possible, Council contracts go to City of Logan businesses.

With an annual spend of around $500 million on goods and services, supporting local businesses is  a priority. The procurement policy was adopted earlier this year to ensure Logan businesses can maximise their chances of providing services for those funds.

Meadowbrook business, JET Excavators and Trucks, established in the City of Logan more than 20 years ago and supplies earthmoving services to Council.

Director, Gabby Murphy, says the company is also committed to supporting local businesses.

“We’ve been fortunate to hire locally and have focused on generating a list of quality local suppliers throughout our business,” she says.

“Our commitment to Logan has seen us heavily invest in infrastructure that ensures plant and equipment reliability; innovation and technology that improves safety; access to quality local plant operators; and environmental outcomes.”

Procurement and Appropriations Special Committee Chair, Councillor Jacob Heremaia, says Council wants to support City of Logan businesses.

“When Council purchases goods and services from local suppliers, we create employment and stimulate the local economy,” he says.

Council currently has a target of achieving 45 per cent of its annual procurement spend sourced locally.

It surpassed this in January with about $85 million (47 per cent of the monthly spend) expended with local suppliers. Local businesses wishing to be considered for upcoming Council tenders on quotes can contact the Procurement Team for details on how to register.
