Fittest mums compete to celebrate strength
When 130 mums recently gathered to compete in a treadmill running race and weightlifting, it was the consistent top performance from Logan duo Jess McCabe and Kate Soady that won them this year’s Fit Mumma Classic.
The pair performed 4 functional fitness feats in front of more than 300 spectators at CrossFit Iron Barbell Meadowbrook.
The fitness competition was also showcased in a live television cross to The Today Show.
Bethania mum Jess, who has Henry, 2, along with Springwood mum Kate, who has Bonnie, 4, and Van, 8, were crowned Fittest Mums of the competition.
The pair’s standout moment was a combined total of 150 kg in the hang clean and jerk lifting competition.
Jess, who also happens to be the co-owner of the Meadowbrook gym where the event was held, says it was great to see mums compete, connect, and celebrate strength.
‘Training at different times, all juggling our work and home life, means it’s pretty special when we can all come together on the day,’ Jess says.
She says CrossFit is that hour in the day when busy mums ‘can escape all the other roles in our lives and give back to ourselves’.
Organiser Patsy Tierney, of Fit Mumma Events, says the 2025 competition was sponsored by Logan City Council and showcased homegrown talent.
‘It’s also more than fitness, it’s about giving back,’ Patsy says.
‘We raised $3,600 for Baby Give Back, a mums and bubs charity, and collected a mountain of donated nappies, baby wipes and clothing for families doing it tough.’
