Workwear Shed: a local business serving boom industries

Chintan Gandhi and Dipak Keshwani go back a long way. The university friends and one-time housemates took the plunge into business partnership 2 years ago, when they bought The Workwear Shed in Beenleigh.  

Chintan, who was formerly a sales director, and Dipak, who was a Griffith University lecturer, were looking for a business that was a mix of retail and wholesale, and would allow them to expand. 

They found that at the Workwear Shed, which has been based in Beenleigh for more than 15 years. Within 2  years, they’ve increased the wholesale side of the business and expanded their ranges to keep up with trends. 

The pair has seen some big changes, including a boom in business for the manufacturing and infrastructure industries they mainly work with, a keener eye for fashion in buyers, and more women entering the industries. 

‘After COVID, these industries are definitely booming and we are finding that for a lot of organisations, customising their workwear is important to them,’ says Chinan says. 

‘We do offer branding as well, and people are getting creative with what they want. 

‘They want to see what suits their company and brand and see the clothing as a reflection of them in many cases.’ 

‘Dipak said their suppliers had also responded to the increased demand from women. 

‘The women’s market has grown a lot, so we are seeing, for example, pink work boots and shirts and things like that,’ he says. 

Chintan says their small team is Logan-based, and they use local suppliers. 

‘It is an important part of the way we do business to make sure everything is local,’ he says. 

‘The business community is close here, and we balance a good working relationship with local companies with a commitment to serving the local community as well.’ 

The Workwear Shed is located on Logan River Road in Beenleigh.
