Slacks Creek flautist dazzles in Thailand

Slacks Creek flautist Maria Brereton officially has global talent, winning accolades in an international youth competition in Thailand.

Maria, 13, won the People’s Choice Award and was fourth runner-up at Kids Star International in December.

The event recognises, celebrates and develops young talent from around the world.

Maria performed an upbeat dance-pop piece titled Round Round and donned a beautiful nature-inspired dress for the national costume segment.

‘The best part was making new friends from countries like Indonesia, Zambia and Russia, and learning more about Thai culture and going to the temple,’ Maria says.

‘I am so grateful for people who donated, like my Romanian community and other community members that helped me fundraise so I could attend.’
