Happy fish, happy feet
A new spa in Browns Plains is offering more than just a foot treatment.
Customers keep coming back with friends and family in tow for the ‘fish pedicure’ at Barefoot Fish, Australia’s only registered fish spa therapy centre.
“Most people forget about a good experience after a day or 2, but we have customers talking about our spa for weeks.”— Simone Trueman
During the treatment, customers place their feet in warm freshwater tanks containing dozens of toothless fish, which nibble away at dry and dead skin.
Owner Simone Trueman first experienced the ‘fish pedicure’ overseas while on holiday.
‘It was such a fantastic experience for my family, and I became fascinated with it once I started researching its health benefits,’ Simone says.
‘The fish activate acupressure points, stimulate circulation and help with skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.’
The experience is novel for most.
Simone says customers tend to hysterically giggle at first until their lymphatic system starts to peak.
‘This forces the body to relax – customers always leave the store saying they feel so rejuvenated and like they’re walking on clouds,’ she says.
‘The reception has been so great. The local community seems to love discovering new things.
‘I love Logan – not a day goes by without something new to discover, learn about or experience here.’
Above all else, Simone’s favourite part of her business journey is watching people experience something new for the first time and seeing them come back.
‘Most people forget about a good experience after a day or 2, but we have customers talking about our spa for weeks,’ she says.
