PCYC Logan’s big win in business

The Logan Local Business Awards recently celebrated the PCYC Logan team for their dedication to building better communities through sports and recreation.

Nominated by its own members, the Slacks Creek club won against 11 other businesses in the Fitness Service category during the awards on 15 October.

The award finalists were selected through the process of a ‘mystery customer’ visiting the club and asking a range of questions. Finalists then created a profile and responded to questions about their clubs.

‘The community nomination was an honour – we love what we do here, offering accessible fitness services to the community,’ Maite Chedid says in her role as club manager.

‘We never expected to win, there were some really big names in our category.

‘When we won, we were screaming, I was shaking. I was so nervous.’

The club has become a beloved community hub with the largest gymnastics hall in the City of Logan, along with a state-of-the-art gym, boxing ring and more.

While people join for the world-class facilities, many return for the positive, inclusive and encouraging environment and community connections.

The win is a testament to not only Maite’s leadership, but the entire team’s efforts in developing rapport with its members.

Maite, who has only been a part of the PCYC for a few months, is looking forward to what else the club can achieve in the future.

‘We were so pleased to be nominated, and we will just keep doing what we love and hope the community continues to enjoy it,’ she says.
