Meadowbrook health centre offers full wellness package

A focus on wellness and prevention, a holistic approach and a personal touch: these are some of the things that people expect from a GP surgery in 2022. – and rightly so, according to Darryl Grundy, CEO of UQ Healthcare.

‘People should expect a medical centre to deliver multi-disciplinary health care  that places the person at the centre of that care,’ he says.

That’s what people can expect at Meadowbrook Medical Centre, which recently opened across the road from Logan Hospital as part of the UQ Healthcare network.

UQ Healthcare is a not-for-profit primary care, clinical innovation and research organisation established in 2010 by The University of Queensland. It delivers multidisciplinary primary healthcare services in rural and urban locations across the statethroughout the southeast.

‘Our vision is to improve the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve, prepare the next generation of health professionals, and generate and apply new knowledge,’ Darryl says.

UQ Healthcare has more than 60 GPs across the centres, as well as nurses, reception teams, allied health workers and specialists.

‘Demand for health services in Logan is expanding rapidly,’ Darryl says.

‘There is an urgent need to manage people effectively outside of the hospital.

‘Meadowbrook Medical Centre is at the heart of the Meadowbrook Health and Wellbeing Precinct – part of the Queensland Innovation Places Strategy.’

Meadowbrook Medical Centre delivers a full suite of general practice services, offering inclusive care for our diverse region. The number and breadth of services for residents has also been expanded, including chronic disease/healthy lifestyle services.

The clinic is supported by 4Cyte Pathology, visiting specialists and allied health.

Darryl says  Logan Healthy Living will also open in the precinct later this year. This is a lifestyle management program offering a new interprofessional model of chronic disease prevention and management.

The program is supported by an alliance between UQ Health Care, Metro South Health, The University of Queensland, Griffith University and the Brisbane South PHN.

‘The involvement of students and the integration of research is central to this concept,’ Darryl says.

‘Health and Wellbeing Queensland has endorsed this new approach to chronic disease prevention and management through a $2 million investment over 4 years to design and deliver thisa lifestyle management program.’
