Young business student excels to 'Buy Smart'
When it comes to getting a refund, a young Business student from Parklands Christian College in Park Ridge is now one of the experts.
Oliver Reise won second place in the Queensland Government’s Office of Fair Trading Buy Smart Competition, designed to award smart young consumers (and their schools) who create clever new ways of communicating the challenges, opportunities and pitfalls existing in today’s complex marketplace.
State Member for Logan Linus Power MP and Queensland Attorney General Deb Frecklington met with Oliver when they hosted the Awards at Queensland Parliament House in late October.
Oliver received the recognition in Year 8 for his series of engaging and humorous skits explaining refunds and other consumer law remedies to other teenagers.
He received $250 and his school received $1,000 for his win.
‘I had heard about the competition a few months ago and thought I would give it a go,’ Oliver says.
‘I made a deal with God, I was going to give all of whatever prize money I win to someone in need.
‘He has really blessed me, placing second in this state-wide competition and giving me the means to share His love with others around me.
‘It has been so much fun and has happened so fast I am still trying to comprehend it!’
The annual competition awards more than $15,000 in prizes and is open to all Queensland primary and high school students from Years 4 to 12.
