Hypnotherapy: can it change your life?

If you’re thinking of quitting smoking or drinking, or want to finally tackle recurring anxiety or depression, Jaynti Ramji reckons he’s the man to call.

The Regents Park man has been practising hypnotherapy for almost 20 years, and says he has a 98 per cent success rate when it comes to helping people let go of habits and states of mind that no longer serve them.

His first experience with hypnotherapy goes even further back than that – when he used it to quit smoking 28 years ago.

Jaynti (pronounced Janti) says hypnotherapy can change the lives of people with a goal they want badly but struggle to reach, like quitting smoking or drinking.

He starts with a phone interview with potential clients, to see if they are fully ready – essential if people want to succeed.

‘People sometimes think they are ready, but they may be being pressured by a partner to stop smoking for example, and not be all in themselves – if this is the case it won’t work,’ Jaynti says.

‘Then we will move onto a session and go from there.’

Jaynti says hypnotherapy works by discarding the conscious mind and delving into the subconscious to find what is at the core of the issue, and what the best approach to stop a habit would be.

‘In your subconscious is everything you have ever seen, tasted, and learned in your life – it is all there, but we are not aware of it in our conscious minds,’ he says.

‘Hypnotherapy gets people into a state of deep relaxation – a theta state – where the subconscious mind is accessible.

‘I ask people to focus on one thing so everything else slips away and do some breathing exercises – and then I will have a conversation where the true answers at the core of the issues are revealed.

‘Then, when people come out of their hypnosis, they often say they feel like they have slept for 8 hours – it is very refreshing.’

For those struggling with stress or anxiety, Jaynti says opening up the core of the issue allows people to let it go; for those seeking to quit a bad habit, there are association techniques where the client will be told to associate smoking or drinking with something unpleasant so that the cravings go away.

‘On average, if a client comes to see me and they really do need to quit smoking, they will leave here after 2 hours and they never want to touch a cigarette again,’ he says.

‘I am influencing a powerful part of the mind, saying ”this is not a part of your life anymore”.’

As if to illustrate the point, he has a large bin in his office overflowing with half-full packs of cigarettes and lighters – left  behind by clients keen to start their non-smoking life.

While Jaynti welcomes clients mainly from Logan, he also offers online hypnotherapy and has assisted clients from as far away as London.
