Meet the everyday heroes helping Logan thrive

Across Logan, everyday heroes are quietly shaping our community – not for recognition, but because they care.

The stories of Kerry Anderson and Lynda Tilley show just how powerful one person’s commitment to community can be.

According to Logan resident Warren Black: ‘Kerry embodies the spirit of a Logan Legend through her unwavering dedication to the Logan City community’.

As the Logan Connect and Neighbour in Need Community Chaplain, Kerry spends her days supporting people facing hardship – not just with words, but with action.

Through a wide network of volunteers from Park Ridge Baptist Church and across Logan, Kerry organises hands-on assistance such as lawn mowing, house cleaning, frozen meals and handmade items including knitted craft and Red Cross teddy bears.

Mr Black says Kerry’s approach focuses on dignity and empowerment, ensuring people feel supported rather than dependent.

Drawing on her background in school and community chaplaincy, Kerry builds relationships that offer hope and resilience, while strengthening community connections and creating lasting change for individuals and families across the city.

That same deep commitment to community is reflected in the work of Lynda Tilley, the State Coordinator for Amputees Queensland, who was put forward by Tammy Robinson, founder of Formally Ever After.

‘Lynda is one of those people who cares for everyone,’ Ms Robinson says. ‘She has been volunteering and working in Logan for nearly 20 years.’

Since moving Amputees Queensland into the Ben Matthews Playground Community Centre in September 2023, Lynda has expanded a healthy ageing hub that focuses on the wellbeing of people with disability and older residents.

Alongside her paid role, she volunteers up to 15 hours a week delivering equipment, providing warm blankets and beanies, offering IT help, creating safe meeting spaces, and simply being there when someone needs support.

Her long-term goal is to see Logan become fully accessible, recognising the daily challenges faced by people using mobility aids.

‘She’s a true asset to Logan. I’ve seen the community involvement and how what she does brings communities together. Lynda touches hearts of people all around her and Logan is very lucky to have such an inspiration in its midst,’ Ms Robinson says.

Stories like Kerry’s and Lynda’s are reminders that Logan Legends aren’t celebrities or public figures. They are neighbours, volunteers and community builders whose impact ripples well beyond what they realise.
