Local muso strumming her way to the top
Jimboomba musician Jessica Holbrok is setting her sights on an amazing year to build on the success she’s already achieved.
The 25-year-old started the year with a bang by taking out first place at the Tamworth Country Musical Festival’s Battle of the Buskers competition.
‘I was happy to be in the top 10 as I had not pictured getting there,’ Jessica says.
‘I couldn’t help but cry. I am still in shock as it is an honour to be chosen and see the judge’s belief in me.’
The talented singer and songwriter competed for the first time in a field of 469 buskers to make it into the top 10, scoring a beautiful new guitar and the opportunity to headline at next year’s festival in the opening concert as well as perform at The Courthouse Hotel in Tamworth.
‘I’ve had a lot of exposure already and am so over the moon,’ Jessica says.
‘I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds.’
Next on her busy schedule was the March launch of her single Heartbreak Cowboy, a track she describes as ‘bold, playful and emotionally sharp’.

‘I’ve been writing and booking gigs non-stop.’ Her next run of performances includes appearing at Mt Isa on 9 May as part of the QLD Music Trails Outback Sounds concert.
‘A bit closer to home I have 2 gigs coming up this month at Riverlink Shopping Centre in Ipswich on the 23rd of May, and in Logan at the Round Mountain Sales Centre Grand opening, New Beith, on the 30th of May.’ (See Round Mountain free family event details here.)

‘Jess is a great example of what can come out of our local music scene,’ Mayor Raven says.
‘To come out on top of the buskers at Tamworth is a big deal.
‘We’re all cheering her on and we can’t wait to see what she does next.’
Jessica says Logan is dear to her heart as she was born and bred in the city, attending Hills and Emmaus Colleges and Beaudesert State High School.
‘It’s my home town and it’s a wonderful place to live.’
