Wildlife the winner in new parks project

Parks in the City of Logan are doing double duty.

Not only are they great recreational and environmental spaces, Lissadell Park in Shailer Park is now supporting local wildlife carers through the planting of tree species that can be used as food sources for sick or injured wildlife.

The park now features a variety of carefully selected native species chosen to thrive in local conditions to provide a sustainable food source for wildlife.

Division 10 Councillor Miriam Stemp says the food trees had been planted specifically for local wildlife carers to access as soon as they were established.

‘We have some amazing carers struggling to find sufficient native plants to feed the wildlife they care for,’ Cr Stemp says.

‘These plantings show how we can use our parks to not only provide recreational space but support them too.

‘Residents will also be able to enjoy seeing the positive impact of this project during visits to Lissadell Park and if successful, hopefully we can plant more food trees in other local parks.’
