Celebrate Family History Month at the Family History Mini Fair at the Kingston Butter Factory, where local history comes to life through displays, presentations and expert guidance.

Explore exhibits from Logan City Libraries and family history organisations, and connect with experienced genealogists and researchers for one-on-one assistance with your family history journey.

Enjoy a program of engaging talks from local historians and heritage specialists covering topics such as online research tools, preserving community memories, researching local soldiers, and turning family trees into published stories.

  • 10:15 am – 10:30 am – Welcome and Introduction – Hilda Maclean, Local Heritage Specialist
  • 10:30 am – 11:15 am – Free Online Resources for Telling Local Stories – Hilda Maclean, Local Heritage Specialist. Discover free online resources that can help uncover photographs, newspapers, maps, records and other historical sources that bring local stories to life.
  • 11:15 am – 11:30 am – Break
  • 11:30 am – 12:15 pm – The Power of Your Story – Denise Watson, Local Historian. Explore the importance of family and community memories in preserving local history and learn how personal stories contribute to a richer understanding of the past.
  • 12:15 pm – 1 pm – Lunch Break
  • 1 pm – 1:45 pm – Country Boys to Country Heroes: Researching the Soldiers of the Logan District – Coralyn Cowin, Local Historian and Author. Learn how a long-term research project documenting World War I service personnel connected to the Logan district evolved into a valuable record of local wartime history.
  • 1:45 pm – 2 pm – Break
  • 2 pm – 2:45 pm – From Family Tree to Published Story: Lessons from Bringing Family History to Life – Robin Kleinschmidt, Local Historian and Author. Gain insights into researching, writing and publishing family history stories, including lessons learned and challenges overcome along the way.
