The AusAlert national test
On Monday 27 July, compatible mobile devices across Queensland may receive a test alert as part of the Australian Government’s nationwide testing of the new AusAlert warning system.
The test alert is scheduled to be sent at 2 pm, with no action required from recipients.
AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices during local and national emergencies. The system will launch on 1 October 2026, with the July test helping ensure it is ready when needed.
During the test, compatible mobile phones, tablets and smart watches may vibrate and play a loud siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds, even if they are set to ‘silent’ or ‘Do not disturb’. The alert will appear as a notification on your device and may interrupt phone calls, apps and lock screens.
What you need to know
The alert is a test only and no action is required.
AusAlerts are expected to work on iPhones 11 and up running iOS 26.4 or higher, and Android phones and tablets running Android 12 or higher. You might like to ensure you have the latest software updates on your device, so you’re ready to receive the alerts.
If you are driving when the alert is received, do not touch your phone. Mobile phone laws still apply, and the alert should only be viewed when it is safe and legal to do so.
If you are concerned about receiving the alert, follow these steps:
- before the test: turn off your mobile device or put it in aeroplane mode
- during and after the test: keep your device off for at least an hour.
